week 8 of #year of making, with only 44 to go!

It’s week 8 review, well really it’s my 7th week, but for the sake of my own sanity we’ll pretend I’ve been making things since the first of the year.
So at the end of February that will be 58 days.
Sunday.
I finished knitting (yep finished knitting) my Analogous/Ombre cowl.
I used an unlabeled light blue mohair for the top bit, I wish I knew what it was because it is softer than baby butts, and I might even cheat my cold sheep to buy more.

Tuesday & Wednesday.
Tuesday was my birthday, so as a treat I didn’t worry about any projects an spun some yarn, using some scraps I’d saved up. If this experiment didn’t work out it wouldn’t matter because it’s my birthday and I didn’t really have to be really productive.

IMG_20150224_135257I combined the blue Homespun acrylic scraps from a pompom I had made by carding them with llama fiber. I used some Knit Picks roving as a base. And added the blue bits to it till it was gone.
I was pretty happy about it, but decided to ply it with some thread to help strengthen it. And I liked where it was going, but then we left to go out for dinner and had a good time.
We came home let the dogs out, got the kid ready for bed, checked some lovely facebook birthday wishes and then my son found this.IMG_20150224_165045

I’ve owned that spindle less than 2 months.

We stopped at the hardware store though and I managed to fix it. It’s still got some Biscuit bites in the whorl, but I sanded the worst of them out. And even managed to repair the yarn and finish plying it.

I’ve been a bit inspired too, I’m working on my own extra spindles, using scuply as the wheel, not sure it’ll be heavy enough. But I figure I can glue on some heavy nuts or washers  to ad weight if they don’t work very well.

Thursday & Friday.
I’ve had this Lion Brand Heartland Tweed sitting around for months, I meant to make Nennir by Lucy Hague, from the Winter 2012 issue of Knitty But it was not working, I didn’t ming the guage difference, but it just wasn’t working. I was NOT enjoying this yarn. Maybe it’s the acrylic, it had not stretch and I was hating working with it. So I frogged that and since the yarn was out I started this Braid Cowl instead.
I’m still not in love with this yarn, probably won’t get it again. But it’ll work for this.IMG_20150226_114604 IMG_20150228_002513
I’m just wondering when I became a yarn snob.
Or do I finely really understand what makes better yarn better?

And Saturday.
Well Saturday I went out to dinner with the family and there was some vodka involved so I came home and went to bed with no picture taken. I did work on the Braided cowl some more, and I tried my hand at making spindles with Sculpty and chopsticks.
But no picture taken.
Oh well.
