I haven’t been knitting much this last week. It’s a little like after a really good workout you feel like spending the week week camped out on the couch eating potato chips and feel completely validated doing so. Because that workout was so hard and you deserve a of rest day or five. Well that describes the first few days after the mittens where done, but now it’s evolved into that huge question I assume all knitters face, “WHAT NEXT?”

this hat here

For me that has been turning to the task of starting to write down my patterns. I started a new hat, but only after I did a little facebook pole and asked for a name for the hat pattern. The winner is getting a hat for the winning suggestion.
And while I loved “The knit helm of awesomeness” suggested by Bob (and may have to design a hat just for that name), or the “Noodle Nommer” suggested by Jeff, it was in the end plain ol’ “Alison” that seemed the most fitting.
” Just call it the “Alison” because I want one in every color! ”
Plus her comment was sweet, sucking up to the judge worked here.

Alison hat for AlisonSo she is getting one in blue, with what is turning out to be kind of a spring colored variegated yarn. I was hoping it would have more yellow (her favorite color), but it turns out to have just been just a little chunk at the start. Still looks okay though. I’m also been spending considerable amount of  time,  choosing a font for the pdf pattern.
I always spend a lot of time choosing my font, I’ll go through my whole font closet sometimes before I spend another hour online looking for something. In the case of body copy I usually go back to Futura it seems. (If you are not a font AND craft nerd this seems like a lot of silly.)

alison fontI’m thinking the 2nd from the bottom on the left, the script one. Just feminine enough, not to silly or uptight.

As soon as I have all the stitch counts, gauges and come up with a clear way to describe my two-sided decreases I will post “Alison” to the patterns page. My first shared pattern.
Maybe I will share it on Ravelry too, though I fear it is too common-ish or simple for that. But it will be free so you can’t complain about that.

I think my next pattern will be fingerless gloves, which are super nice to have here in Minneapolis during the fall months. While they are pretty useless outside in winter, they can be nice if you have a cold house and just need a little something.
The plan is to make a pair for my son with an Adventure Time theme. They will have Finn on one, Jake on the other.

panda fingerless-glovesThese are old old old ones I have been wearing for a few years now. You can put any cute critter you want on them, but I’m hoping a panda template would be easy to make. My son also suggested cookie monster ones, I thought that would be great with real googley eyes. And he also suggested ones with the Tardis on them, although I believe he was simply pandering to my own love of Doctor Who there.
I basically taught myself to knit so I could make the Scarf, he know this.

I’m still looking for the right yarn to use for a cowl inspired by my trip up north too.
I’ll share previews as I get anywhere on that project. Oh yeah and that shawl thing,
I’ve knit one whole row on I Love Yarn Day, then I had to go to the gym, which is a whooooole other rant.
