This week has been all about the reddit duel KAL.
I picked team Oddity. I should probably give myself a break from these mitts, but I have become obsessed and I don’t even know why, I’m not liking the pattern much.
Mainly because it written Papyrus …
If you design patterns, never not ever write your whole pattern out in this font.
Just don’t. Really Don’t.
Sunday.
Sunday I knit a hat and somehow used size 9 needles by mistake, instead of the 7’s I meant to. Like those 2 needles aren’t even close to each other in size.
But the SO has excepted it anyway, because he has a big head.
Plus side it fulfills my Feb Craft Challengeoops my Feb Cold sheep challenge,
something for someone else.
Happy Valentines day big-head.
Monday & Thursday.
I cooked stuff. I made my son help on Monday. It’s fun to make them help cook, because they usually end up loving it. And then they brag how helpful they where, completely failing to mention the part where they complained for 20 minutes.
(New parent tip, the best reply to any complaining is “tough, you are helping”.
I also made veggie stock from all the old veggies in my freezer,
this was easy and I took all day doing it. While I knit these- these things…
There wasn’t a day I haven’t worked on these.
But officially it’s just these days…
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday.
I finished the right hand mitt, after messing up a couple of time because I completely missed the thumb increases. Then I messed up the cable somewhere, then lost a whole stitch, and my increases left big wholes in the side. So I put beads on them because it was ugly. then I tried other beads on. then I started a 2nd pair with another yarn that was too big. Then a third the original fingering yarn doubled. But they were coming out to short, so I doubled up the cable pattern to make them longer. Added a couple of rows to the cable repeats.
Finally finished the right one, started to think it was okay and then, THEN I realized I’d been reading the pattern wrong the whole time. The cable chart doesn’t show all the in between rows to save room, I had essentially cut the pattern length in half.
That why they seemed too short. That’s why the side cables were too tight.
Sooooo, I frogged the first attempt, I will be keeping the third attempt even though they are slightly itchy and finish the pair and I am re-knitting another pair with a contrasting color this time, because I found the beige to be, well kind of too beigey.
Of course I wasn’t super happy how that was coming along either so after a couple more tries I figured something out. We’ll see how it goes…
Down side they may end up too big now with this 2nd yarn.
Plus side, I don’t care, the yarn I added is super soft and these will be cozy.
So I’m curious, what is a pattern that has driven you nuts, but you finished it anyway?
And why?
Yes! For me it was the “Sourwood Mountain Gloves” — http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cunninglinguist/sourwood-mountain
The cabling was beautiful, but the sizing wasn’t right, and the instructions were tricky (I can’t remember why now, but I remember it drove me crazy!). In the end I finished them because they were a gift to my boss, but they were still a little tight! 😛
